Department Introduction
The Keelung Story House is located on the first floor of the Keelung Cultural Center, occupying an area of about 350 square meters. Formerly, it was the Local Characteristics Museum which was predominantly based on the relevant instruments and historical evolution of the coal mining industry. In 1998, it was partially updated. In 2004, the advance planning of “assessment and planning on the setting of the Keelung Coal Mine Museum” was completed with the grants we obtained from the local cultural halls. The Local Characteristics Museum was repositioned and transformed to be the “Coal Mine Museum”. In 2005, we re-attained the grants for the Local Cultural Hall Program and the Keelung Story House Software Enhancement Program in the second year of operation. The name of the hall was then changed to the “Keelung Story House”, and it was officially inaugurated and opened in 2006. Currently it is predominantly based on “The Birth and Growth of Keelung” permanent exhibition. The content of the exhibition includes Keelung Harbor and the industries of the surrounding areas, the history and battles of Keelung, the mining history in Keelung, the pit experiencing zone, the entity model of the Armstrong Breech-Loader Cannon, the introduction on the seven local roaming routes in Keelung, the model of the old Keelung Train Station, interactive game software, and the multimedia exhibition area of Keelung’s outstanding art, as well as New Year paintings, blue dye, casks, straw sandals, and introduction to other special industries. The development history of Keelung since the early days is elaborated in great detail with text, pictures, and entity models. We aim to present the vision and the future development direction of Keelung to visitors.
