The Kaohsiung Wude Martial Arts Center was built in 1924. Its construction started later compared to the Wude Martial Arts Centers in other cities. As a result, instead of the common name “Yenwuchang” for the Wude Martial Arts Center, it was given the name “Zhenwuguan” as the meaning of the name was to revitalize Wude. The Kaohsiung Wude Martial Arts Center is a masonry building with its load bearing wall made of plain bricks. The design of the column at the entrance is the Greek style “Tuscan Order”. From the outside, the building looks magnificent. What’s more, the column was decorated in relief with arrows and targets, representing the spirit of Japanese Bushido. The Japanese “Bushido” includes Kendo, Judo, Kyudo, and other traditional Japanese martial arts. The Kaohsiung Wude Martial Arts Center was listed as a historic site in 1999 and restored. Currently, people can participate in martial arts related activities and lessons such as Kendo classes here.
