Yilan CountyHistory and humanitiesEr-Jie BarnEr-Jie Barn is located on the southern bank of the Lanyang River, near Er-Jie Train Station. It was built in 1928 (Showa 3), formerly known as the “Lijegian Credit, Procurement, Vending, and Usage Union Farmers’ Association Warehouse”, where the spaces within were divided into three parts, including the “Farmers’ Association Office”, “Rice Mill”, and the “Barn”. During World War II, Lijegian Credit Union used to procure rice produced in the agricultural area on the southern bank of the Lanyang River, and refine the rice at the rice mill, then transfer the product to Taipei and other places, or export it to Japan or the Southern Pacific regions through Keelung Harbor. Under the conservation effort made by the Da Er-Jie Culture and Education Promotion Association in 1998, Er-Jie Barn was designated by the Yilan County Government to be one of the county designated historic sites in the same year on the 12th of August, and this was followed by the research and rehabilitation work in an effort to plan for the future agricultural exhibitions. The Da Er-Jie Culture Foundation (formerly known as the Da Er-Jie Culture and Education Promotion Association) was commissioned by the Yilan County Government in 2011 to be in charge of the operation and management of Er-Jie Barn, and present it as the Er-Jie Barn Agricultural Hall to visitors.

Yunlin CountyHistory and humanitiesHouse of Citizen-Memorial Hall of AttendanceThe House of Citizens-Memorial Hall of Attendance was established in 1926 during Japanese rule as a memorial to the visit of the Japanese Crown Prince Hirohito (later known as Emperor Showa) in 1923. Though the Crown Price did not visit the House in person, it is still a monumental location. The functions of the House of Citizens-Memorial Hall of Attendance have changed several times since the Japanese colonial period from the original assembly hall to the office of the public sector and welfare center. Due to the impact of the 921 earthquake in 1999, the structure was severely damaged. After being approved as a historic building by the Review Committee of Historic Sites and Buildings of Yunlin County in 2001, the House was subsidized and restored based on the “Regulations on Subsidy of the Historic Buildings in the Disaster Area of the 921 Earthquake.” The reconstruction work was completed in 2006. The Cultural Affairs Department of Yunlin County outsourced the management rights of the House in 2011 and it was given back to the Douliu City Office in March, 2016. The City Office planned a series of events related to the local living style in Douliu to connect the House with the locals. Currently, the House has become one of the latest attractions for hipsters in Douliu City.
