Museum Island

The “Penghu Reclamation Hall” was founded in the 10th year of the Showa period (1935) as a mixed residence of Japanese and Western styles. The Hall was formerly used as the official residence of the Penghu Ting Director during the Japanese ruled period, and the residence of the Penghu County Executive after Taiwan Restoration. It is the first reuse example of local culture halls among the historical buildings in Penghu.

There are four main elements you can see in all activities and facilities in the Nankan Children's Art Village - parent-child, art, learning, and delicacies. Parents and children can both find areas of their own in the Village. The Nankan Children's Art Village is not an ordinary cultural and creative park. Instead, its goal is to become a platform where children’s art activities in the Taoyuan area can mingle together. It also has the ambition to become the first place to come to the minds of the citizens of Taoyuan (or even people around Taiwan!) when thinking of parent-child activities. The Nankan Children's Art Village is a place where parents and children can learn and have fun at the same time. If you look closely, you will find many intriguing things in the Village. For example, the Village Chief Adventure invites children as well as parents to solve the puzzle and explore the Village together. Also, children can paint the Village moat wall with their imagination. Come and find out what your creativity can make on the moat wall! Look at the magpie couples in the tree! Let us witness a family and a new life come to the world together! The Nankan Children's Art Village collaborates with several local art and cultural organizations in Taoyuan. The miniature of 200 years of history everywhere in Daxi. When the Lin family hired carpenters to build “Tongyidi” in Takoham in the 1810s, the woodware industry began here. After 200 years of development, Heping Old Street, Kangzhuang Road, Xinyi Road, and Yuanlin Road have become the home of many woodware stores and woodworks, and the center of Taiwan’s woodware industry. In addition, a unique police living sphere has been formed after the “Takoham Police Sub-station” was established after restructuring in 1901, where police quarters were built progressively around Puji Road, witnessing the history of police development in Daxi over the last 100 years. The local woodware industry, history of police development over the last 100 years, street houses, old buildings, Wude Temple, and temples, the birthday ritual of Guansheng Dijun worshipped in Puji Temple, and worship culture with 100 years of tradition, these tangible and intangible cultural assets and the people living here have formed a lifestyle and local culture unique to Daxi. To preserve, record and display the “Wood Art Industry in Daxi” and the “Daily Lifestyle of Daxi People”, the two core themes, through collaboration with local residents in order to promote contemporary wood art and life aesthetics is the belief of Daxi Wood Art Ecomuseum. Repairs began from 2014. Hall 1 and Wude Temple were reopened in 2015. From then on, each section has been reopened annually. The Craftsman Story House and the Crafts Exchange Hall were reopened in 2016. Besides, the museum connects the corner halls in Daxi, in order to promote the civic participation of local cultural affairs. Whether the corner halls, the heritage of wood art in Daxi, the preservation and promotion of worship culture, and more topics of concern, by encouraging the participation of Daxi People in terms of point-line-plane and locating the people and resources connecting topics, this museum encourages the formation of a base for sustainable development through planning various plans and empowering talents. Through doing and learning together with the residents, this museum discovers and reproduces local knowledge and memories. Apart from running our own exhibition halls, we guide people to repair and maintain their space for exhibiting and transforming resources and stories, attempting to continue and preserve Daxi’s cultural assets, including wood art and worship culture. In addition, resident participation in actions can be developed and encouraged in the daily life to eventually realize and display Daxi’s charm and turn the district into a livable town.

The Pinglin Tea Museum established in 1997 is situated at the bank of the Beishi River of Pinglin District. Occupying an area of approximately 3 hectares, the Museum combines the beauty and grace of Chinese classical gardens with the features of contemporary buildings, constructing an elegant, tranquil hall of the tea culture. The Museum is composed of Exhibition Hall, Experience Hall, Tea Arts Classroom, etc. We will hold various kinds of themed special exhibitions relevant to tea periodically, which allow the visitors to understand Taiwan’s tea industry and the tea culture of China and other countries. Meanwhile the enriched and amusing educational activities will showcase the infinite possibilities of “tea” in the modern days, and tell the countless touching tales of the one-tip two-leaf leaflets. We hope to lead the visitors to find the beauty of nature and culture in the fragrance of tea, and see the most pleasing cultural scenery in our town of tea.
