Establishment Purpose

  • National Cheng Kung University started to set up a museum in the spring of 1999, and the University set up a museum planning and promotion team in August of the same year. On March 25th, 2005, the Museum Preparatory Office was established and the University Affairs Meeting on July 5th, 2007 passed the "NCKU Museum Establishment Regulations" to officially establish the Museum. It is the first museum of a public university in Taiwan to be officially incorporated into the school's organizational regulations (NCKU Organizational Regulations Chapter II Article 8 Section 10, Approved by the MOE's Department of Higher Education Letter No. 0960175126).

Department Introduction

In order to carry forward the fine traditions of the University, preserve and revitalize the cultural assets of the university campus and enhance the cultural literacy of teachers and students, the purpose for establishing the Museum is as follows: 1. To research and publish school history and cultural assets. 2. To collect and maintain important historical relics. 3. To exhibit and expand the teaching and research achievements of teachers and students. 4. To promote and assist multi-societal education. The museum is composed of the main museum, the campus environment museum, and college (institute, department) professional museums. The main museum is responsible for the collection, research, exhibition, and promotion of the University-level cultural assets (Including the campus environment museum), and assists the establishment of history museum for colleges (Institutes, departments), and the exhibition and promotion of other cultural assets. The University's historical monuments and unique ecological formation environmental museum is responsible for the collection and research of the colleges' (Institutes, departments) cultural assets, preservation and exhibition to form professional museums. The Museum encourages teachers to collect and research, preserve, exhibit items related to teaching, research, and service while training students to become citizens of the world that possess professional knowledge and cultural literacy. The Museum has achieved its short-term goals in 2010 of becoming a well-known university museum in Taiwan. The Museum will then commit itself to connecting with well-known foreign universities, and work towards the intermediate goal of becoming moderately recognized on the international scene (2011-2020). After establishing a solid foundation, the Museum will work towards its long-term goal (2021-) of becoming an internationally renowned museum.
