Establishment Purpose

• Hualien Archaeological Museum was established in accordance with the rule No. 53 of the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act, “Antiquities obtained from the excavation of archaeological sites shall be recorded and filed by the excavators, and delivered to the antiquity custodians designated by the competent authorities for safekeeping.” Due to the lack of a professional collection and exhibition space for antiquities obtained from the excavation of archaeological sites in Hualien County, the head of the Shoufeng township office agreed to provide the building freely for the public use. The building was used to be the market of Shoufeng, and was located near the mining area of Fengtian jade as known as Taiwan jade. The museum is located at the perfect spot for connecting the neighborhood and cooperating with the jade companies as well as showing the public the development of Fengtian jade from the prehistory to the modern time.

Department Introduction

In order to ensure that the daily operation of the museum works functionally, three departments which are exhibition & education, collection & research, and administration & operation bound tightly. We not only have the mission of collecting and preserving the archaeological cultural heritages of Hualien, but also to reveal the historical context and the cultural background. Our vision is to become the core of prehistorical resources of Hualien, and to demonstrate comprehensively of the prehistorical development of Hualien.
