Department Introduction
The Sianguang Second Village in Guishan is the only village for the families of military policemen in Taoyuan, and the only fully preserved dormitory village for military policemen in Taiwan. It was registered as a historic building in 2006 when it was moved. Founded during the period of the National Women's League, the village is ordinary, simple, traditional, and quiet, with a banyan in the central square, becoming the best choice for many TV and movie companies to shoot a scene on location. The Taoyuan City Government has administered the Sianguang Second Village under the authorization of the Ministry of National Defense since 2015. Residency workstations have been set up since 2016 and cultural and historical organizations have been commissioned to reside in the village, in the hopes of revitalizing Sianguang Second Village through community disturbance and attracting people to visit this place again. The Art Preservation Program has been implemented since 2017. Artists are invited to reside in the village and discover the beauty and glory of the Sianguang Second Village from different perspectives with its rich historical textures as the nutrient for creativity. Field surveys, interviews, and collections of cultural and historical data, community empowerment, art experience courses, holiday markets, and artistic and cultural exhibitions are implemented on an ongoing basis. It will be planned and developed as the first immigrant museum in Taiwan.
