Establishment Purpose

  • In 1896, the Japanese established the Taipei Nursery and Mother Tree Garden, and it was officially renamed as the Taipei Botanical Garden in 1921. It was the first botanical garden in Taiwan and was also Taiwan's first botanical garden to join the Botanical Garden Conservation International (BGCI). The Taipei Botanical Garden occupies an area of approximately 8.2 hectares, and is a metropolitan botanical garden. It is divided into various themed exhibit areas that house over 2,000 species of plants. The Garden is an important venue for Taiwan's botanical research and education.

Department Introduction

The Garden provides comprehensive plant conservation information through systematic scientific investigations and records. The Garden carries out plant conservation through extensive plant species collection and cultivation. The Garden strengthens people's awareness of conservation through vivid exhibitions and inspiring education. The Garden conducts conservation of global plant diversity through the International Botanical Garden Network.
