Establishment Purpose

• Most systematic or large-scaled astronomy museums were in the north and central Taiwan, which reduces the education opportunities for the students living in southern Taiwan. Therefore, the Tainan County Government decided to provide people living in southern Taiwan with a venue that features astronomy education. In 2002, Danei District of Tainan County was selected as the site of the "Tainan Astronomical Education Area (TAEA)." it's hoped that the TAEA can provide astronomical sources and a quality learning environment for the local teachers and students; the gap of education resources between the urban area and rural areas will be reduced consequently. In 2010, after Tainan City and Tainan County were combined, the "Tainan Astronomical Education Area (TAEA)" was renamed "Tainan Astronomical Museum;" then, it was merged into the "Children's Science Museum" located at the North District of Tainan City and renamed as "Tainan Science Education Museum," which help promote parent-child education in south Taiwan.

Department Introduction

1. The Tainan Astronomical Museum has the responsibility for the dissemination and education of astronomy knowledge, it's aimed to promote public astronomy education. In addition to its position that helps schools in Tainan City promote astronomical science education, it has combined innovative technologies with the learning resources in astronomy to make difficult astronomy interesting. It's a venue where people in south Taiwan can learn astronomy, also, it has the mission to become an education center of astronomy education in south Taiwan. 2. The Children's Science Museum has the mission of promoting parent-child science education. Through hosting multiple special exhibitions themed with science, the museum takes the mission of creating a child-friendly space for science experience, promoting science in daily life, making science education in Taiwan reach younger children, boosting parent-child joint learning atmosphere; the popularization of parent-child science education in Tainan City will be fulfilled.
