Department Introduction
A weapon is a showcase of technology and civilization of the humankind, and an important foundation for conducting researches on the evolution of ethnic cultures. After the invention of firearms, cold weapons were no longer the mainstream instrument used in battles. However, it became closest to the daily life of the people. Knives and swords became essential in religion, clothing styles and folk customs, and ostentatious materials used by literato in their will-expressing poems. Its beauty and artistic features have comprehensively replaced its original function. Due to the difficulty in collecting historical materials, people absorbed in the arts of weapons nowadays are few and far between that causes a worsening cultural fault line. Therefore, based on the urgent need of inheriting the history and culture, and the vision for developing a unique aspect of research for the pure arts of weapons, the Kuo Chang-Xi Weapon Art Museum was officially established in the October of 2002.
