The Sun Li-Jen General Museum is the former captain’s dormitory of the 8th Regiment of the Army Air Force during the Japanese rule built in 1937. It is one of the most important pieces of cultural heritage in Pingtung City that reflects the characteristics of the official residence during the Japanese rule in Pingtung City, whether in the type of the architecture space, style, and structure of the architecture and the construction type. For this Western-Japanese eclectic residence, a Western two-story building in the front was used to receive visitors while a Japanese dwelling at the back was for living. Later on, the residence was taken over by the Nationalist Government. Becoming the General Sun Li-Jen Residence during 1947 to 1955, it was then used as a “Guest House of the Air Force.” For the concept of enriching the local culture and extending the lives of traditional buildings, the traditional buildings are therefore restored for use again.
