Establishment Purpose

  • Since its opening in 2001, the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei was organized and managed by the "Contemporary Art Foundation" composed of private entrepreneurs commissioned by the Taipei City Government for the first 7 years. The directors of the foundation, past curators and staff members have worked together on many brilliant contemporary art exhibitions to not only promote exchange between Taiwan and the international art scene, but also open up people's aesthetic tastes and cultural horizons. January 1st, 2008 marked the end of the "private-to-public" contract for the first 7 years as management duties for the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei was transferred to the Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs. In addition to the continuation of the previous operating philosophies and directions, the new management team also further consolidated the domestic and foreign interest, combined limited official resources with private sponsorships, and matched diverse cultures with cross-industry innovation. In addition to serving as an important venue for international contemporary art exhibitions and spotlight to showcase the achievements of Taiwanese contemporary art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei has always had three goals in mind: the 1st goal is to promote the creation and exhibition of diverse styles of art; the 2nd goal is to inspire new thinking and perspectives, and the 3rd is to provide an endless stream of creativity and vitality for the development of contemporary cities.
