Department Introduction
The Museum is located beside Jingtong Train Station, near Jingtong Old Streets. Originally the Taiwan Railways Administration dormitory, the Museum was restored and officially opened on the 27th of January, 2005. The permanent exhibition on the first floor of the Museum is based on the introduction on the natural attractions and places of cultural heritage including the sky lantern culture, coal mines, railways, waterfalls, and potholes of Pingxi District, as well as the development history of the century-long coal mining industry and the development and changes of the industries in Jingtong District. Special Exhibition Rooms on the second floor: (I) “Coal Mine Artifacts Showroom”: Predominately based on the introduction on the relevant artifacts of early coal mines and the models of the neighboring huge sloped pit at the bottom of stone, Taiyang Club and the washery. (II) “Local Culture Special Exhibition” Hall: Exhibiting the “Legend of Pingxi Railway”, “Ever-changing Keelung River”, “Early Ecological Environment of Pingxi” and “Sky Lanterns and Fireflies”in accordance with the current season and upcoming festivals. In order to highlight the local features of the district, the special exhibitions in recent years are mostly based on the local culture and figures, and in hopes of presenting the local features of humanities and cultures with the exhibitions.
