Department Introduction
The War and Peace Memorial Park and Theme Museum, which is the only museum commemorating the Taiwanese veterans, was completed and officially open to the public on May 20, 2009. It's the Taiwan's only themed park displaying the Taiwanese veterans who devoted themselves to the World War II, the Chinese Civil War, and the Korean War. It's aimed to commemorate the Taiwanese soldiers who were recruited and sent to battlefields across the South-East Asian and mainland China. Moreover, it has demonstrated wartime issues, such as the youth workers in the Koza Naval Arsenal, the nurses, the Comfort Women, the Hell Ship, etc. to strive for the reasonable recognition in history. It's now administered by the Taiwan Extra-Patriot Veterans Association (TEPVA). In the museum, there are various artifacts and materials of culture and history about the Taiwanese servicemen, including the historical records of old Taiwanese servicemen striving for the rights and documentaries of Taiwanese soldiers made by Mr. Khou Chiau-eng (Xu Zhao-rong) over the past decades. Every year, regular ceremonies in memory of these warriors to make people understand the war history of Taiwan and interpret the tragedies in an allegorical sense to avoid their recurrence. The activities include Khou Chiau-eng Literary Prize, Taiwanese Soldier Memorial Ceremony, War-End Memorial Rituals, A symposium on War History of Modern Taiwan , etc.
