Department Introduction

During the 60 years of Yeh Shih-Tao’s writing career, he wrote in Japanese as well as Chinese and his work included novels and critics. In 1987, he completed the first history book about Taiwanese literature and published An Outline History of Taiwan Literature. The book not only outlined the structure of Taiwanese literature, but also opened a new page and lighted the future road for Taiwanese literature. An Outline History of Taiwan Literature has established its irreplaceable place in the Taiwanese literature history. Mr. Yeh Shih-Tao didn’t just care about Taiwanese literature. He spent his whole life participating in literature activities in Taiwan. His literature work had the elements of novels, literature critics and literature history. If we look at it closely we will find a Taiwan literature map with color contents and Mr. Yeh himself is like the Taiwanese literature history in a quick glimpse. To memorize the iconic writer- Yeh Shih-Tao, the Tainan City government constructed the Yeh Shih-Tao Literature Memorial Museum in 2012.
