Department Introduction
The “Library Materials Research and Service Center” was dedicated to constructing the infrastructure of literature since its establishment. The core business and mission of the Library Materials Research and Service Center is to collect and curate literature and historical materials, in the hopes of nurturing literature in our society. For the past 30 years, the Library Materials Research and Service Center has constantly and passionately devoted its resources to assist artists and writers, and with the special topics and special columns in each issue of the “Wenhsun” Magazine, the Library Materials Research and Service Center has systematically shaped the developmental context of Taiwanese literature. The “Library Materials Research and Service Center” not only holds the essence of the development of Taiwanese literature from different periods in the history, but also holds resplendent trails of life of the moguls and young writers in the literary world. This is the oasis for researching Taiwanese contemporary literature, and has been deeply recognized by writers and scholars at home and abroad. Many a little makes a mickle, the Taiwanese literature and historical materials curated and organized by the “Library Materials Research and Service Center” was appreciated over the past thirty more years. There are the compilation and publication of literature reference books such as the “Memorabilia of Taiwanese Literature After the Restoration”, “Taiwan Literature Yearbook”, “Catalog of R.O.C. Authors and Publications”, and over a hundred other books and reference books published, such as “The Complete Works of Hisu-Ya, Chang”, “The Complete Works of Ai Wen”, “The Complete Works of Mr. Kuo-Hui, Tai”, “I Am at Where I Am Not – Field Study Note of Literary Works”, “Research Compilation of Taiwan Contemporary Authors”, etc. In order to fully exert the potential energy of the collection with abundant features and to constantly promote the developmental progress of Taiwanese literature, we are not satisfied with the current results; on the contrary, we keep putting our systematized holdings into the compilation, literary creation, and digitization of literary reference books. In addition to continuing to compile the “Research Compilation of Taiwan Contemporary Authors”, we supported the production of cultural and creative products of other entities, accepted the commission by the National Museum of Taiwan Literature to construct databases such as the “Taiwan Literature Yearbook Database”, “Catalog of R.O.C. Authors and Publications Database”, “Catalog of Taiwan Literature Researchers’ Contribution Database”, and “Research Compilation of Taiwan Contemporary Authors Database”, and accepted the commission by the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Taipei City Government to carry out the related engineering work of digital archiving of the ”Chinese Literature Information Platform” (Digital Taipei Literary Hall). These major works and promotions have not only enriched the collection of the Center, but also endowed the Center with more important roles and functions. The “Literary Materials Research and Service Center” opened to the public on July 1, 2018, which was also the 35th anniversary since the first issue of “Wenhsun”.
