Establishment Purpose

• Nanguan and beiguan are the most thriving and rather artistic types of traditional music in Taiwan with the richest repertoire. Nanguan can be dated back to the Tang dynasty, while Beiguan derives from the “labeled melody” of the Yuan dynasty. The melodic drama is the remanence of the melodic drama from the Ming and Qing dynasties. While Changhua County is the earliest place where both types of traditional music were circulated, the Museum of Traditional Nan Bei Music and Theater is the feature museum for preserving these two types of traditional music.
