Establishment Purpose

  • Apart from archaeological site preservation, archaeology education, and the promotion of public access to archaeological R&D findings, the Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology (SSHM) is committed to the interpretation of the correlations between local archaeological culture and daily life environment, extension of the leisure resources of Bali’s left bank, integrating the living environment of ancient peoples and the leisure routes of modern people, and exploration of the traits of local time-space. In addition, the museum building with the Shihsanhang cultural image bringing forth the Bali Plain surrounded by the Guanyinshan Mountain, Taiwan Strait, and Danshui River estuary, and the elements of the living environment of prehistoric Shihsanhang people with the architectural vocabulary covers fully the cultural and environmental implications.

Department Introduction

Located in Bali District, New Taipei City, the SSHM is the only archaeology museum in northern Taiwan. The SSHM aims to preserve and promote Shihsanhang culture. Through the concerted efforts of all employees, the SSHM actively promotes archaeological site preservation, archaeology education, and cultural tourism, in order to make mysterious archaeological knowledge accessible by the public. In addition to a community museum and the environmental ecology museum of the left bank of Bali, the SSHM is making efforts to become a global archaeology museum.
