Establishment Purpose

• Cailiaoxi river basin located in Zuozhen District of Tainan City is rich in oryctocoenose. Over a long time, the researchers nationwide and worldwide as well as amateur fossil enthusiasts have been paying attention to the place. Therefore, Cailiaoxi oryctocoenose has become an important natural cultural asset of Tainan City as well as an important local site. Tsai-Liao Fossil Museum of Tainan City was founded in 1981; it's Taiwan's first fossil museum as well as an important demonstration and education platform that displays the evolution of migratory ancient mammals in Taiwan. However, enhancing the research and management of relic archives is the only way to fulfill the professional purposes, the preservation of culture and carrying on the heritage. In 2017 and 2018, the existing Tsai-Liao Fossil Museum, the Natural History Education Center, the campus of the Guangrong Elementary School as well as its neighborhood area were included within a comprehensive plan of building an educational park for exploring the experimental geosciences; it will become Taiwan's only fossil museum that functions as an educational and cultural park for national treasure archives, studies of fossils, and cultural tourism. It's hoped to drive the industrial development of the remote regions and tourism momentum.

Department Introduction

(1) Planning the multi-functional fossil cultural park that features archives, research, demonstration, education, leisure, etc. (2) Integrating existing space resources with the Tsai-Liao Fossil Museum, the Natural History Education Center, and the Guangrong Elementary School to fulfill the progress in both culture and education at the same time. (3) Transforming Zuozhen District into Taiwan's important location for studying archeorganism as well as highlighting the historical background and representative importance of fossil collecting in the Cailiaoxi River Basin. (4) Bringing the local fossil enthusiasts and private collectors together with the concept of fossil bank to build up a platform to archive fossils. (5) Integrating the natural geological environment in the Zuozhen area to reveal the characteristics of the Field Museum.
