Establishment Purpose

  • Established in 1983 in response to a burgeoning modern art movement, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) is Taiwan’s first public art museum. Since its inception, the museum has shouldered its mission dedicated to the preservation, research, development and promotion of contemporary art in Taiwan. In addition to stewarding the near-century of Taiwan’s art history, the museum has also continued to be attentive to the development of contemporary art. To this end, the operational directive must have a grasp on the global perspective, construct regional contexts, nurture artistic talent, promote arts education in order to advance the development of the arts ecology to raise the cultural cultivation and artistic integrity of the people to attain a contemporary society with an aesthetical sense, creativity, and analytical ability.

Department Introduction

The mission of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum is to promote the preservation, research, development, and popularization of Taiwanese modern and contemporary art; to keep abreast of global trends and establish a variety of channels for exchange; to raise people's understanding of modern art as well as active participation; to help develop and thrive Taiwanese modern and contemporary art; and to cultivate fuller artistic attainment in people. It's hoped to form a contemporary society with an aesthetic sense and cultural perception.
