Establishment Purpose

  • The Hsinchu City Military Dependents' Villages Museum established in 2002 is the first of its kind in Taiwan and the base for displaying the culture and artefacts of residents of military dependent’s’ villages in Hsinchu City. In this three-story building, the historical background of military dependent’s’ villages is introduced on the first floor, including the formation and evolution of military dependent’s’ villages; the living environment and atmosphere of military dependent’s’ villages are shown on the second floor, using landscaping to preserve the unique style of military dependent’s’ villages; and thematic special exhibitions are held on the third floor to promote military dependent’s’ village culture. All artifacts in the museum are gathered and provided by residents of military dependent’s’ villages in the city to display the passion and action power of “telling the stories of military dependent’s’ villages with own memories.”

Department Introduction

The Hsinchu Museum of Military Dependents’ Village is like a time tunnel showing the past collective memories of military dependent’s’ villages for visitors to understand the life of military dependent’s’ villages. In addition to being the platform for exchange among military dependent’s’ villages, the museum preserves the culture of military dependent’s’ villages in terms of history and lifestyle to re-present the daily life of Taiwan. The museum aims to regain the true print and dignity of this unique social group as a result of time-space and attempts to systematically develop dialogue and cultural accumulation between culture development and modern society.
