Glass Museum of Hsinchu City

  • Glass Museum of Hsinchu City

Establishment Purpose

  • Built on June 25 and completed on December 25 in 1936, the Glass Museum of Hsinchu City sitting northwest of the Hsinchu Park was originally used as an assembly hall, reception hall, and guesthouse. It was the guesthouse of the Tenno, royal family, and senior officials during Japanese colonization. As time goes by, history has changed, and so has the museum’s role. In 1945, it became the residence of the Nationalist Government Committee. In 1999, it was reconstructed into the Glass Museum of Hsinchu City.

Department Introduction

The Glass Museum was established to integrate culture and tourism resources to help upgrade Hsinchu’s glass industry and for citizens and business owners to participate in and understand the development and application of Hsinchu’s glass industry. In addition to exhibiting glass artworks, the Glass Museum actively promotes the glass art workshop for citizens to contract and create glass art in addition to appreciation, in order to bring another shock by keeping closer to glass art creation.
