Department Introduction

The Taichung Sugar Factory used to be the Empire Sugar Factory Taichung Office. The Japanese constructed the Taichyu Factory of Teikoku Seitou K.K in the factory in 1935. After the war, the Taiwan Sugar Corporation took over it and used it as its office in Taichung. Since the international sugar prices declined and the industry structure in Taiwan changed, the Taichung Sugar Factory stopped the production in the 1990s. As a result, the Taiwan Sugar Corporation tore down most of the buildings in the factory. This is the only building left that was built in the Japanese occupied period.
