Department Introduction

Upholding the values of “origin”, Hwataoyao is not just a kiln yard that produces pottery. It tries to present cultural memories from the perspectives of history, humanities, and nature by gelling the cultural habits in daily life together. Hwataoyao wants to convey an idea - that the “beauty of Taiwan has not changed”- through the traditional climbing kiln in Miaoli, the restoration and planting of native Formosan plants, and the organization of terms used in early residential landscaping in Taiwan. Using the traditional climbing kiln as the foundation, Hwataoyao hopes to share the unique kiln art and culture in Taiwan to the whole world. The art of living in the woods is the best presentation of local Taiwanese culture, art, and landscape.
