Department Introduction

The Buddha Museum located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and was completed in 2011. The Buddha Museum was constructed with the intention of enshrining the Buddha's relic, which is a precious religious heritage given to the Venerable Master Hsing Yun. The Museum not only beholds the “human-oriented” concept to promote life-long education but also adopts “art, film, humanization, and internationalization” as the development goals. Visited by nearly ten million people in one year, the Museum aims to combine archives, research, and education along with strong public service, entertainment, and tourism together. The Museum became an ICOM international museum in 2014 and passed the certification of ISO 50001 energy management system. What’s more, the Museum won the Certificate of Excellence of TripAdvisor and was ranked in the “Hall of Fame” for five consecutive years. Signing a 5-year collaboration plan twice with the State Administration of Cultural Heritage from 2011 to 2016, the Museum held exhibitions such as the “Thousand Years of Light,” “Light Shines on the Universe,” “Amazing Light of Seven Gems,” “Meeting in the Dharma,” “Buddha's Light in the Forbidden City,” and “Light on the Cliff.” The Museum has signed partnerships with museums such as the Shandong Province Cultural Relics Bureau, Anhui Museum, Suzhou Museum, Hubei Provincial Museum, Hebei Museum, Shanxi Museum, Henan Museum, and Lushun Museum over the years. Having once held the “Second Biannual Cross-Strait Museums Meeting” and the “Annual Meeting and Forum of the Hakka Museum Alliance,” the Museum worked with Durham University in England to first hold a special exhibition and academic discussion about the archaeological discovery named “Walking With the Buddha.” The Buddha Museum has become the most important platform for art and cultural exchange of the time.
