Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center, Hakka Affairs Council

  • Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center, Hakka Affairs Council

Establishment Purpose

  • As the window to showcase Hakka Culture, the Liudui Hakka Cultural Park under the jurisdiction of the Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center occupies an area of 30 hectares and has the mission to nurture and develop local industries and guided tourism. The park was officially opened on October 22, 2011. The Taiwan Hakka Museum in the Park, which was built on a land of 4.32 hectares and was opened to the public on May 22, 2012, serves as a platform for global Hakka cultural exchanges. These two national Hakka institutions were established to facilitate people’s access to Hakka culture, to integrate and link tourism resources and local industries with special Hakka characteristics so as to strengthen the vibrancy and economic power of the Hakka communities.

Department Introduction

Creating a space and venue for Hakka culture development is essential to enhance Hakka identity and Hakka ethnic awareness. Apart from advising local governments to implement, repair, construct and operate Hakka cultural museums and institutions, we also played a role in the planning and establishment of the southern (Liudui) and northern (Tongluo) hakka cultural parks originally proposed by the Pingtung County and Miaoli County governments. In 2002, we implemented the construction and operational planning of both parks. In February 2004, the Executive Yuan promoted both parks as national cultural facilities. The Hakka Affairs Council established the “Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center Preparatory Office” in March 2004 to take charge of the planning, construction and operations of both parks. On January 1, 2012, it was renamed “Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center, Hakka Affairs Council” under the government reorganizational plan.
