Department Introduction
The mayor of Taitung has been putting effort into constructing the County and transforming it into a county of tourism and culture since he took office. In order to strengthen the promotion of cultural activities, the Taitung County Cultural Center was restructured to become the Taitung County Government Bureau of Cultural Affairs in January of 2000. It was then reconstructed to become the Taitung County Cultural Affairs and Tourism Department in January, 2008 and Taitung County Cultural Affairs Department in January, 2011. We hope that through the upgrade of the organizational level, the Department can integrate more resources in the work of cultural affairs. The responsibility of the Department is to promote all kinds of cultural affairs and the main goal of it includes: To bring art to life and build an artistic life. By promoting art and culture events and encouraging people’s participation, we blend art into life and therefore create an artistic life. A well cultivated cultural environment can be built from the bottom of the “heart”. The Taitung Art Museum is the first museum at the county level. It stands in the No. 15 Children Park in Taitung City with an area of 3.96 hectares. The north and east side of it is connected to Siwei Road and the south side of it is connected to Zhejiang Road and Kaifeng Road. In the Museum you will find the Stage I and Stage II buildings. The Stage I building opened on December 15, 2007. Its main purpose is to hold exhibitions and collect artistic works. In the building are two exhibition rooms, the Shange and Haiwu Rooms. What’s more, an exhibition garden, sculpture courtyard, administration area, conference room, and the collection room can be found in the building. The Stage II building opened on November 7, 2009. It is a space designed for all kinds of activities. Spaces like the arts and creative classroom, artistic themed restaurant, creative shops, and the restroom for our artists can be found in the building.
