Establishment Purpose

  • Occupying an area of 6 hectare, the “Taiwan Craft CulturePark” built by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) includes five halls: Craft Exhibition Hall, Craft Design Hall, Living Craft Hub, and Craft Hub, and the craft hotel (Zhi Da Craft Service Guest House OT model). Apart from offering visitors and comprehensive services, the three branches: NTCRI Taipei Branch (contemporary crafts art), NTCRI Yingge Branch (multimedia), and NTCRI Miaoli Branch (craft industry R&D) are the most important bases for crafts education in Taiwan.

Department Introduction

Adhering to the belief in “craft art as representation of ethnic culture and crafts artists as carriers of Taiwan’s cultural heritage,” the NTCRI has spared no effort to promote the crafts culture, foster the crafts industry, stimulate crafts creation energy in modern times, improve the living taste of the public, and thereby shape the new look of Taiwan’s crafts culture in the 21st century through crafts culture innovation. Promoting crafts: I. Research crafts culture and establish the subjectivity of Taiwan’s craft culture II. Archive stellar crafts of different ethnic groups and motivate crafts research development III. Preserve unique crafts techniques and cultivate talented crafters IV. Organize crafts competitions and exhibitions to encourage crafts innovation V. Raise the awareness of crafts aesthetics and promote exposures to and learning of crafts in daily life VI. Develop a crafts IT platform to provide comprehensive digital contents and services VII. Participate in international crafts exhibitions to promote Taiwan’s craft culture Fostering the crafts industry: I. Enhance product innovation, development and design to strengthen crafts industry competitiveness II. Develop professional designers, technicians, and managers to boost production III. Promote cross-industry resources integration to transform the traditional crafts industry IV. Help diversify marketing channels and develop market mechanisms for the crafts industry V. Build Taiwan’s craft brand and help with global market expansion VI. Develop community character crafts to accumulate micro crafter capacity VII. Improve hardware infrastructure and services at the Taiwan Craft Cultural Park.
