Department Introduction
In 1978, in accordance with the policy of "important measures to improve public moral" proposed by the Executive Yuan, the Taiwan Provincial Government decided to build a bird park in the Fonghuanggu Scenic Area, which is located in Lugu Township of Nantou County, and the park was named "Fonghuanggu Bird Park," which was a location for holding leisure activities and academic researches. In April 1979, the Taiwan Provincial Government Council passed the proposal of establishing the Fonghuanggu Bird Park Planning Committee, which was aimed to collect information, conduct on-site surveys and repetitive discussions. The construction planning was completed after several years. At the end of October 1982, the construction was completed by investing about NT$204 million; on December 18 in the same year, the park was opened to the public. Since January 1, 2013, the bird park has been managed by the "National Museum of Natural Science" and renamed as "Fonghuanggu Bird and Ecology Park". On the premise of creating an environment for teaching nature appreciation, elevating leisure experience to a higher quality and the concept of bird conservation, the park is aimed to expand people's knowledge of birds and develop a concept of ecosystem conservation; at the same time, the park will stick to the goal of becoming an international ecosystem educational scenic spot.
